Looking Both Ways..2016

Trust in the Lord

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not Know.”
Jeremiah 33 : 3

The Roman’s designated January 1st as the beginning of the New Year.
January is named for JANUS the Roman god of doors and gates;
It represented as having two faces looking in opposite directions.

We look back to review the lessons learned and recount the blessings that we have received.

… For you have not passed this way before.” Joshua  3 ; 4

As we look forward,  we are thankful for a God who knows the future
and has promised to walk with us all the way.
The New Year marks the passing of time. Many regard time as a monster-
that steals our youth; dims our sight; grays our hair ; slows our steps and saps our vitality.
They view “time” as an enemy witch we have to wrestle in mortal combat.
But for the Christian – time extends beyond an earthly lifetime
into the countless ages of eternity.

The passing of time – carries the Christian nearer and nearer to a better shore
of a better land where we shall see our Savior face to face.

As the children od Israel came to the Jordan and faced an unknown future.
God promised to  show them the way they should go.
For us – as for them, it is important to walk with the Lord in the coming  year.

M. Louise Haskin wrote-
“I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year;
Give me a light, that I may tread safely into the unknown!”
And he replied – “Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the hand of God.
It shall be to you better than light, and safer than a known way’

Trust in the Lord and he will keep His promises.
May we continue to have God continually in our life – as we step into a New Year-
God blessings go with you always.

An EXTRA- Ordinary Night ……..

“Love knows NO limit to its endurance, no end to its trust,
no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything.
Love never fails”

“Today our Savior was born in the City of David –
He is Christ the Lord”.
Luke 2:11

An extra ordinary night!!-  Just ordinary sheep and shepherds.
It could have gone unnoticed.
A black sky exploded with brightness-
Trees that had been shadows jumped into clarity. –
Sheep that had been silent became a chorus of curiosity.
Shepherds who were asleep- next woke up
starring into the bright sky- At an Angel!!

That night was not ordinary -The angel came in the night-
because that is when lights can be best seen –
and when they most needed.

God’s love in unconditional. He does not love us-
for anything we may have done.
He loves us no matter what!

The greatest demonstration of God’s LOVE for us was God giving us His Son  –
So we might in turn be able to love others. It is the kind of love-
that should bind relationships;  families and others together

The secret to this happy relationship is an
“unselfish love -that seeketh not its own.”
I thank God for his unconditional love –
it has not only brought me the promise of eternal life–
but to help me to get this kind of love too to share with others.

May we share LOVE- JOY and HAPPINESS -to those around us –
God can give you the power to.

Jesus is the reason for this special Season –
I hope you all have a BLESSED time- go carefully.

The “REAL Christmas GIFT”…..

p on earth

Then the angel said to them-“Do not be afraid, for behold,
I  bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people,
For there is born  to you this day in the City of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2 : 10-11

Some adults- if they had a ‘wish list’ – would probably ask for –
To live a happy and secure life- with family and friends -without sickness -old age -or death!!

“The gift of God is Eternal life” (Romans 6:23)
This is the time when people are thinking of giving or receiving gifts.
God’s greatest ‘gift’ to this world was Jesus- and Jesus’ gift is eternal life –
A gift that cost Him his LIFE.

There are some who have laid to rest a loved one this year-
and have had time to think of death and the resurrection of our loved ones.
I too have had this sad loss of a dear brother earlier this year.

God’s plan for a great family reunion centers in the ‘Babe of Bethlehem”-
Unfortunately the world have taken Jesus out of the season to celebrate.
It does not matter that no one knows the exact date of His birth-
the very fact that He was born itself calls for celebration and rejoicing.
Because this Child was born and fulfilled His Mission- there will be a resurrection –

Why should Jesus come again when He came 2000 years ago?
One of the the answers is that the resurrection depends on His Second Coming!
There will be a time when Christ will return.
Those who love the Lord – will be caught up in the air with our resurrected loved ones-
To live with Him forever- and there will be no more death.

As we think of the real reason for this season-
I want to rejoice that soon He will come again-  the Second time.

Wishing you- God’s Blessings  – His love – and His Peace be with you during this time
when we think of the Birth of Christ – and rejoice that soon He will come again –
and make an end to death.

“The little ones shall lead them” …..

glory of god

Beloved, do not avenge yourself, but rather give place to wrath;
for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine. I will repay,” says the Lord.
Romans 12 : 19

I know these words at such a time as this is hard to understand –
when such an awful tragedy has happened-
“26 shot dead in a school in Connecticut USA.
20 are children-aged 5 yrs-10 yrs die with their teachers”

What can you say to these grieving families?
Doubts arise as to ask- “Why God?”-
The world is saddened by this awful tragedy.It is not God – who is a loving God
– that put it in the mind of this man to do such an awful act –
This is what ‘sin’ has done from the beginning- in the Garden of Eden.
No matter what anyone can say – Nothing will take away all the hurt and pain
these families are going through-
the loss of their innocent children and loved ones.

We have to- as hard as it is to-
Trust the justice of God that assures everyone ultimate fairness.
It is God’s task to keep score and settle accounts- not ours.
They will receive their punishment-

I want to share the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi.
It expresses in a wonderful way the thoughts that so many feel-

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred,  let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt,  faith;
where there is despair,  hope;
where there is darkness,  light;
and where there is sadness,  joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”   Amen

My Prayers are with these families- in their tragic loss –
May the God of Love – surround you all and bring you comfort –
We have the assurance that these lovely children and teachers
will one day be in Heaven with you for eternity.

Remembering His Wonderful Glory!……..

hearts desire

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
and the government will rest on His shoulders: and His name will be called
-Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”.
Isaiah  9 : 6

Think of something that has been the most wonderful experience  in your life?
A wedding? The birth of your first child? Or something else?

Above and beyond any personal experience  – is the CHRIST EVENT!
God’s Spirit inspired Isaiah to describe the person and life of Christ.
He said in  Isaiah 6:1  -“I saw the Lord”… He describes Christ –
His Salvation and his ultimate rulership  of heaven and earth.
It all began with the birth of a child.

Who is this Child?  This ‘Being’ who came as a baby proves to the universe
that God is LOVE.  That night in Bethlehem – changed everything.

The Son of God- born in a stable in a tiny Palestine village.
His name embodies every good quality you could think of.
Praise and honor are His forever.
Every event in history is important as it relates to Christ’s birth.

How can we help – Thanking Him? Praising Him? Honoring Him?
Adoring Him – for His sacrificial LOVE?

Christmas cards and Greetings ;  phrases filled with the reason for the season-
Let us NOT forget the real reason why God sent His Son.

“He became like us – so we could become like Him.
Angel’s still sing and the star still beckons.
He loves each of us – like there was only one of us to love”.

As we think of ‘giving’ at this time of the year –
I want to remember the greatest Gift God gave me- His Son,
Jesus is the reason for the season.

The Rose of Sharon…

“I am the Rose of Sharon,the lily of the valley”.  Song of Solomon.

John Flavel’s book–  The Method of Grace – contains a wealth and ideas of Jesus that he draws from Scripture.
How interested are we in Jesus?
How real is He to us?
How much time do we spend contemplating on Him each day?
Do we study who He is, what He did- and what He is doing now?

Christ is truly the Rose of Sharon – The incomparable one.
Saturate our minds and hearts with His goodness.
His LOVE and His willingness to help us through life.
The scent of His Spirit through us will bless the lives of those around us.

Referring to  J. Flavel’s book- “Christ altogether lovely” – Flavel makes theses points:-

1. It excludes all unloveliness –  His creation though today has become imperfect.
2.  Everything about Jesus is lovely –
“His price is above rubies and nothing we might desire could ever compare with Him. (Proverbs 8:11)
3. He is the sum of all things lovely.-
“For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell  in Him”. (Colossians  1:19)

J. Flavel says -“Fix your eyes on all created beings and you will observe:-

strength in one;  beauty in a second;  faithfulness in a third;  and wisdom in a fourth.
But none excel in everything like – Christ does.

Flavel describes Him – as the ‘Bread’ to the hungry; ‘Water’ to the thirsty;
a ‘Garment’ to  the naked;  a ‘Healer’ to the wounded;  and everything else that anyone may desire.

What does Jesus mean to me / you today?

As we near the end of another year – I want to look back at what God has done for me –
Even though I lost a brother – He gave me travelling mercies to spend time with his family in Canada.
He gave me a beautiful Grand- son Layth this year; and lovely 3 year old Aliyah.
And He gave me time in the UK with my family and friends-
And many more good things.
God  is so wonderful and he is everything to me.

Hea m prayer

“I will Fear No evil……”

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear NO evil; for thou art with me ;
Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.”
Psalms  23 : 4

2003 November 7th – Is a Memorial Day for the Morcombe Family, one they will never forget,
because on that day 9 years ago their son Daniel 13 years old then,
was abducted – taken – and murdered.
The case is going on now, but today the family can finally lay their once happy smiling boy to rest.
God bless the Morcombe family in their long  grief, borne with courage dignity  and humility.
Bless their work in the Community to help keep other children safe in the future.
May Daniel  “Rest in Peace”.

Death is ever present, whether  by a falling leaf,  a wilted flower,
a injured pet or the loss of a  loved one.
The text today contains a principal that the Lord in His  LOVE has given us.
When you are faced with death – things become quite unimportant.
To walk through the valley is to be accompanied with God on our journey before this happens.

The important aspects of our life are few and costs little.  What are they?
Time spent with God through prayer and study. Sharing ourselves with others.
– Spending more time with our family and friends.
Savoring the beauties of nature-  watching a sunset or smelling a rose in a garden.

Enjoy every day – as if it were your last.
Continue to praise and thank God for all he has done for you – in your lives thus far.

We have this promise- ” Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow me;  All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord- Forever.”
Psalms  23 ; 6

God loves us – He saw –  death because He sent His Son to die for me – Thank you Jesus.
